The end of this year is rapidly approaching. With Thanksgiving done, we are on to Christmas and New Year's. That means it's time to consider your life changes for estate planning in Raleigh NC. It might mean working with an estate lawyer to get things changed and updated. Below, you'll find several factors of a plan that might need to be revised during the beginning months of 2017.
Updates for Estate Planning in Raleigh NC
- Life Insurance - Those that own a home or have young children probably have life insurance. This insurance is put in place to help with debts that might be owed upon your death or to help with other various expenses. Make sure the information on your life insurance policy is correct and documented properly in your estate plan for 2017. If you don’t have a life insurance plan, it might be time to consider getting one.
- Marriage Changes - Did you get married or divorced in 2016? Did your children or other family members included in your estate plan get married or divorced? Consider updating any and all changes that apply to this matter as soon as possible.
- Protecting Property For Children - It’s important to name an adult you trust to manage property or money you may leave your minor children. This person could be the same person you leave as your child’s guardian, in which, you’ve named in your will. If you’ve already named someone to manage their inheritance until they’re of age, make sure there haven’t been any changes with that person. Declining health, marriage, or other significant changes to their lives should be documented into your plan.
