Raleigh Entertainment Lawyer: Bynum Front Porch
Originally a cotton mill village, Bynum was a small town. When the mills began to move in, Bynum General Store opened in 1936. Located on the Haw River, the store was one of only five stores in the whole town. Thankfully for the mills, the town quickly grew. It became a bustling little town. The neighbors all knew one another and often gathered together to celebrate.
Sadly, in the 1970’s, the mill closed, causing rapid change in the small town. Because of job losses, people began to move away. It was all the town could do to keep the general store open. Banding together, Bynum neighbors decided to create an event that would help bring people to the small town. In 2001, The Bynum Music Series was started to keep the only remaining historical business in the town alive, in the community. Although the community tried their best to keep it open, the Bynum General Store closed in 1996.
Today, a non-profit organization, Bynum Front Porch stands strong, creating family oriented events and programs that focus on the town’s history and future. In 2001, The Bynum Front Porch Music Series began to reinvigorate the creative culture in the community. The events usually take place on Friday nights in May through August and . Open to the public, the events feature local music and art. They also feature children’s programs – fun for the whole family. Admission is by donation only and the money raised both keeps the Bynum General Store open for the community and is given as scholarships to local student and various fundraisers.
